DPS opens digital marketing office in River North tech hub

DPS opens digital marketing office in River North tech hub

When DPS started the digital marketing wing of Dealer Product Services, few could have imagined the kind of explosive growth that it has enjoyed over the past three years. From a team of two to now 15, what was a fledgling team in the back corner of the DPS office now has a state-of-the-art location in the tech hub of River North in Chicago.

Digital Media Group started less than three years ago and has already expanded beyond its roots in DPS' main Long Grove office. When the decision was made to expand the DPS digital marketing team, there was only one place to go - River North.

The neighborhood has long been known as Chicago's crown jewel for tech companies. With DPS' expansion, it is moving into a neighborhood that is already home to well-known tech brands such as Yelp, Groupon, GrubHub, Braintree, Razorfish, and CouponCabin. Google recently called River North its home until moving to The Loop.

This was a strategic decision on our CEO's part as he wanted better access to tech talent as Dealer Product Services continues to grow its digital portfolio. Currently, DPS offers a full suite digital marketing solutions including Display Advertising, Pay Per Click, Search Engine Optimization, Social Media Advertising, Pre-Roll Video Advertising, and more.

"River North is Chicago's version of Silicon Valley," DPS CEO Timothy O'Neill said. "I've lived my entire life in Chicagoland and I'm very excited that the company that I started from my kitchen table 17 years ago can be part of the city becoming a player in the technology space."

The new office features such Silicon Valley amenities including snacks, a meeting table that doubles as a ping-pong table, standing desks, free gym memberships, flat screen TVs, and more. In addition, it features modern styling with a bold color palette. Digital marketers now have access to an open air office space, exposed brick, and more. With this office, traditional drop ceilings are a thing of the past.

"We spared no expense with this office," O'Neill said. "We already have people who have worked in other dot coms and advertising agencies before, so we know what it takes to attract top talent within this space. We wanted to create a workspace that would promote creativity."

During the past few years, the company has experienced tremendous growth due to digital marketing demand, especially within the automotive industry.

"This company got its start in traditional marketing and that will always remain our base," O'Neill said. "But in an incredibly short amount of time, we've become strong in digital marketing. This expansion will give us greater access to young digital marketing talent and keep us at the forefront of the industry."

Fall - Cultural Homestay International intern program strengthens DPS team, connects cultures

Cultural Homestay International intern program strengthens DPS team, connects cultures

Cultural Homestay International intern program strengthens DPS team, connects cultures

Date: Summer 2015

Cultural Homestay International (CHI), is a non-profit educational organization who had the vision of giving people all around the world the opportunity of connecting with different cultures and approaching new experiences. When Dealer Product Services (DPS) was contacted to take part in this program, we jumped at the chance.

DPS decided to take part due to both the diversity this program offers and the talented workforce it can bring. As an added benefit, both employees and interns could learn about other cultures. Both found that the cultural part was not the only enriching thing of the experience.

"The dynamics of work varies greatly from company to company, and if in that equation we include the change from one country to another, the difference can be huge," Andrea Garcia, one of the Spanish interns who is currently part of the DPS team said. "We ended up learning from each other. We learn new work techniques, and how things are done and executed here, while we try to contribute with all our knowledge. That has lead us to run everything in a more effective way."

Dayna O'Brien, one of the responsible of the Internship/Trainee department, is one of the people who make all this process work. "My job is to look for companies that would be open in participating in the program. After I talk to the company and tell them about the benefits of the program, I start sending them candidates. When they like a certain candidate, they interview them. Then it is my job to collect the necessary paperwork from the company such as the host business agreement, workman's comp, and the training plan. I also work with the company and the interns when they get here to make sure everything goes smoothly."

Anke Kutzscher, a Germany national, arrived at DPS in September, and was actually the very first person to join the program at DPS. During her tenure, she has become an asset to the company, learning about PPC and Display Advertising, while bring in her skillset as a graphic designer.

"In the beginning, this was a new experience for all of us," Kutzscher said. "[Now], what I enjoy most about this program is all I have learned so far; the training process techniques DPS uses are awesome. But also the freedom I have when it comes to get organized to perform my job, [and] the team."
